I'd be really interested in running this again if you can? It's 10 years old now, so maybe a good time for an update.

I would strongly back up the suggestion to also include step-family ie.

Step-father
Step-mother
Step-grandfather
Step-grandmother

I think they will feature for a lot of people.

Wow!

Nuclear family: 49%
Extended family (inc friends): 22%
Non-family: 29%

So that means a whopping 71% of us were abused by family members/friends
And 29% by non-family

Wow.

If you ever remake this poll I hope that perhaps you can add in Step-Father and Step-Mother into the list of answers. For me and probably for a few others a Step-parent is in no way considered family, especially an abusive one. To call them a Mother or a Father even is painful because they tarnish the name of what it truly means to be a parent.

But my answer is the same as Onde's. Was abused by my step-father and my mother was too weak to leave him which led to neglect.

My father was an asshole but I couldn't include him as an "abuser". It's more accurate to say he just sucked as a parent. My molester was the son of a family friend.

I answered this question years ago, before I remembered the worst stuff. My answer today would be different, but I can't change my original answer or add the most significant abuser in my life.

Father is most common I'm shocked but also relieved I'm not a freak who's father does this
