Many
sexual abuse victims report being confused as to their sexual
orientation. Boys who were abused by males often question their
masculinity, fearing that they "appear" or are homosexual.
It is important to realize that one must heal from the sexual abuse
to really get a true picture of what their sexual development would
have been had the abuse not happened. The question has been asked
many times "Can childhood sexual abuse make you gay". I
don't know. I have read many reports that say "NO, a person is
born that way not made that way" and others that support the
idea that indeed it can make a person become homosexual". From
all that I have read, I can not begin to answer that question. But I
would say that as survivors uncover their own natural sexual
impulses, they will experience desire one way or the other. Once
they heal sexually, that desire is what is normal for them. They can
then go on to have a healthy and fulfilling sex life regardless of
their sexual orientation.
