Believe will be initially a 'friendship group' for ongoing support with day to day living.
As survivors of abuse the long term effects it leaves behind can often be debilitating (as we know).
We can often feel isolated.
Although I believe online a great support I personally would like face to face support also.
My vision is to have a permanent base for Believe where survivors can meet socially. I would like to be able to offer things such as art therapy, meditation and a sign posting resource onto other support. By educating and supporting survivors we can empower them and hopefully enable them to lead healthy, fulfilling, happy lives. Would like to have day trips, meals out and fun therapeutic activities.
Would like to educate and raise awareness among healthcare professionals ie: GPs. Possibly compile a leaflet to support how they manage patients that come in and disclose abuse. I was told 'that's in the past and you need to get on with your life now' by one GP. As a qualified nurse myself i know more can be done with health care to support survivors.
Would like eventually to be able to offer support through the court process too.
Big visions and ideas but......got to start small.
So a group that will meet monthly at first. If we are used by survivors and the need is there we will grow.
Hope this explains a bit more about my vision.
Mission statement;
Believe is passionate about breaking the isolation felt by adult survivors of abuse. By raising public
awareness of the long term effects of childhood abuse and by supporting and empowering victims,
