Athlone Midland Rape Crisis Centre

Welcome to the Athlone Midland Rape Crisis Centre
We aim to provide a professional counselling and support service, in a safe and secure environment, for people who have been affected by abuse or sexual violence – thus enabling us to break the silence surrounding abuse and sexual violence in our community.

We provide a free professional counselling service to both males and females who have experienced rape, sexual abuse, or any other form of sexual violence.

Objectives:
To provide a free professional counselling service to both males and females who have experienced rape, sexual abuse and any other form of sexual violence;
To provide support for the family members of people whose lives have been affected by sexual abuse and rape;
To provide information and support with the legal and medical processes involved with the aftermath of rape and sexual abuse;
To promote and increase public awareness on to the nature and extent of the problem of sexual abuse in our community.
All counselling is provided by professionally accredited and experienced therapists in line with best practice and HSE requirements. Appointments can be made personally by ringing the free phone number 1800 306 600 or by referral from professionals, friends or other family members.

Services
The services provided by the Athlone (Midland) Rape Crisis Centre are facilitated by professionally qualified accredited psychotherapists who have undertaken additional training in order to specialise in the dynamics of sexual violence and abuse.
Our service is confidential and free of charge.
It is available to anyone who has suffered from sexual abuse or violence.
We provide a safe, therapeutic space for our clients.
We facilitate people on a first-come-first-serve basis – unless it is a crisis situation.
We work towards facilitating a crisis situation immediately.

Telephone Helpline
We offer confidential telephone counselling. This is often the first time a person has had the opportunity to talk about the abuse. It is confidential and safe to talk and they will be listened to and believed. We will offer support and information, and the client may remain anonymous if they wish
Only you can decide if the time is right for you to talk to somebody

Face – To – Face Counselling
We also offer face-to-face counselling. This can be crisis counselling, short term counselling (six sessions) and long-term psychotherapy.
Long-term psychotherapy offers the client a safe environment in which they can tell their story, at their own pace.
We use a non-directive, non-judgmental approach, working towards empowering the client to make choices and take responsibility for their future.

Court Accompaniment
If it is needed, we can arrange for someone to accompany a person to court to support them during the process.

Outreach
We offer an Outreach service by appointment in Longford and Mullingar.
