The Mayo Rape Crisis Centre

The Mayo Rape Crisis Centre was established in July 1994 in response to the number of women and girls from Mayo contacting other Rape Crisis Centres, especially the Centre in Galway.

A small group of women came together concerned at the lack of any services or support in Mayo for women who had been sexually abused or raped.

Freephone Helpline

The helpline is provided by trained helpline staff and volunteers, who can give you support and information.
The service provides support for men and women who have experienced rape, sexual assault or childhood sexual abuse. It doesn’t matter if these experiences happened a long time ago or if they were reported to the Gardai. You are under no obligation to disclose to us what has happened to you, we can work with you on the issues and symptoms you have as a result of your experiences.

We offer one to one counselling to both men and women who have experienced any form of sexual violence recently, or in the past. Counselling provides a space to help you gain a clearer understanding of yourself and your situation. Deciding and making a commitment to have counselling is a very powerful and life affirming choice. During the course of your therapy you will be looking at yourself, your relationships, and your life in general.

Our trained counsellors will never force you to talk about anything you are not ready to. They have a profound understanding of the nature of trauma and the necessity to allow the survivor to go at their own pace. It takes courage and commitment on the part of the survivor to find a way past the hurt and often shame that they experience as a consequence of the trauma, but the therapeutic relationship can slowly help to unravel the binding threads that can keep survivors tied to these feelings.

Your counsellor will review whether you feel the counselling is meeting your needs on a regular basis.
