South West Rape Crisis and Sexual Abuse Centre

South West Rape Crisis and Sexual Abuse Centre provides free and confidential information, advocacy and support to anyone (age 12 and over) in Dumfries and Galloway affected by any form of sexual violence. We welcome survivors of sexual violence and their non-abusing friends, partners and families.

We also provide advice and support to staff in other agencies who are working with survivors.

We have been running for over 20 years. We are funded by the Scottish Government, Dumfries and Galloway Council, NHS Dumfries and Galloway and various other funders.

We employ seven full-time staff.

As well as supporting survivors and others, we want to stop it happening in the first place. We aim to prevent sexual violence by raising awareness, challenging myths and campaigning.

We have a prevention worker, one of a network of prevention workers across Scotland. She works with young people in secondary schools in the area. More information about the Rape Crisis Scotland sexual violence prevention project.

We are part of Rape Crisis Scotland and the network of local rape crisis centres across Scotland. We comply with the service standards for RCS member centres. Centres across Scotland offer many different services. Because we are part of this network, we can put people in touch with other member centres if necessary.

All rape crisis centres and the RCS Helpline are staffed by fully-trained paid/unpaid women workers.

We are a member of the Dumfries and Galloway domestic abuse and violence against women partnership.

We aim to be inclusive and welcoming to all regardless of age, disability, gender reassignment, marriage and civil partnership status, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion or belief, sex, gender identity, intersex status or sexual orientation.
