Re: Help Required - how did you find us?
I stumbled across your wonderful community by doing Google searches, while trying to find some anonymous help for dealing with abuse, and dysfunctional families (so delighted that I did)
Re: Help Required - how did you find us?
I found havoca by doing an Internet search using the DuckDuckgo search engine.
Re: Help Required - how did you find us?
Actually I'd like to expand on this as the journey started earlier.Lisa_Lisa wrote: Tue Sep 14, 2021 3:02 pm It was NAPAC for me too - verbal recommendation on a phone call
First it was a childline poster at school. The number 0800 1111 so easy for a child to remember.
Later as a young adult the trauma came up again and again but I knew I couldn't call childline anymore so I called the nspcc, just to ask how I could donate to support childline at first.
As I was a donor now, the nspcc stayed in touch with me, asking me every year if I could donate a little more.
Then came the Jimmy Savile moment, even though csa wasn't my particular experience, I saw survivors speaking out, I saw a justice process trying to happen. I saw something that could still be done in my case too.
I called the nspcc to say childline must have all the records of my abuse and did they think I had a case.
The lady I spoke to was unequivocal. She said I should report it to the police.
So next I called the police and reported it and they referred me to victim support.
I didn't take it further than just an initial report.
The fallout was enormous. So next my go to became the samaritans, they probably kept me alive.
I was still speaking to the nspcc too.
The nspcc suggested napac who were very hard to get through to. It took years before my first successful call to them. I have called them many times since. They suggested havoca in one of those calls.
So:
Childline > NSPCC > Police > Victim Support > NSPCC again > NAPAC > Havoca
I wonder how many followed a similar route.
I wonder if some police department or even funds from the Jimmy Savile case could be sources worth looking into. Could Esther Rantzen be a useful advocate to approach (I remember her from early on, raising the profile of childline). I think the NSPCC as well, for me they were the connecting thread between childline and NAPAC

Re: Help Required - how did you find us?
DuckDuckGo search took me to NAPAC, found HAVOCA on NAPAC website.
Re: Help Required - how did you find us?
I searched up NAPAC, The Truth Project.... then found a link here.
Curiously and absolutely no criticism to good folk here - but when I was asked what support I'd had the last two years, I said 'Havoca, an online forum....,and the ISVA I've been appointed had never heard of it, but was obviously interested... I might have gushed a bit about how it had been vital to me, and indeed has been all I've had support wise and information wise to go on.
So - Thank you HAVOCA, and I hope you are able to continue so important conversations and support can just keep passing on, and on to those... who like me, had a late night desperate need.

Re: Help Required - how did you find us?
Thanks everyone. We get a lot of referrals from charities. It's ironic that they receive Grants for their services and then farm people out to us.
I'm pleased we are able to provide the help but miffed we dont get any help from the "big" guys.

Re: Help Required - how did you find us?
I would have done a Google search and found HAVOCA that way. I do recall telling either Victoria or Sarah at Choices Counselling about Havoca pre 2015, while I was on the waiting list. I noticed when I referred again more recently that Havoca is now included as a contact on their help list. I think they struggle for funding themselves, but might be worth a try. Tel: 01223 358149.
