Forgive and Forget at Christmas

the cidesForgive and Forget at Christmas

Forgiveness is a very emotive subject for survivors. Any mention of the word forgiveness normally evokes a defensive response because the survivor or victim assumes the writer is talking about forgiving the abuser.  But forgiveness doesn’t have to be about the abuser.  Forgiveness starts with the self.  As a victim and a child, we may have developed some coping mechanisms that served us well during the abuse.  However, these coping mechanisms may be holding us back in adult life and may be holding us back into that victim regime.  To survive perhaps we need to forgive are younger selves. Perhaps that forgiveness can be the catalyst for further recovery.

On the subject of forgiveness, we are pleased to announce the receipt of £1300 from musical group The Cides

“We are are recently formed musicians and artists collective who live and work on the fringes of mainstream media.

Our main goal is to raise awareness of social and environmental injustices but we also want to remind people what it is to be human.

On 10 December, to mark the 1948 Universal Declaration of Human Rights, we released a song and video called Forgive and Forget at Christmas.

The song cutely invites the listener to explore the role of forgiveness in a relationship breakdown.

But the video goes deeper, looking at the topic of child abuse and how forgiveness can only be granted by the victim and not some head of religion.

Throughout the calendar year we will be working supporting several non-profit organisations. For the month of December our chosen partner is HAVOCA for their amazing support of victims of child abuse.

Human Rights?

Surely the rights of the vulnerable, especially children, must be given special recognition.

The right of the victims of abuse to be heard and listened to.

The right of the victims to demand that those charged with the governance of so called ‘law and order’ bring the perpetrators to account.

Please watch the video on youtube.

If you want to buy the song and maybe donate to HAVOCA, please visit: bandcamp

Thank you for listening.
